Collection: Swimerz Double Hooks
Double hooks are widely used for fly tying, but are also an ideal choice for use on hard body & soft lure rigs, and as a stinger hook on fresh baits. Using double hooks unlocks the true potential of many lures as the front double hook looks like pectoral fins while the rear double hook looks like a tail fin. They are superb as a belly hook on crankbaits and other hard body lures because there is no superfluous third point to interfere with action or scuff the lure.
With double hooks there’s no split ring required. So, it’s super fast and easy to switch hooks, but it also means they’re lighter, which translates to more lure action. And with no split rings, double hooks also make for a quieter lure – great when fish are shy or you emplying stealth tactics. There are some additional benefits to be gained from using Doubles -
- Adding a double as a trailing hook or stinger to a spinnerbait lure or live bait for instance improves the strike-to-catch ratio.
- Double hooks are stronger than trebles because they don’t have a solder joint to fail during a tough battle.
- When you’re fishing in heavy cover, double hooks can be fitted with both points facing upwards. This allows the hook to nestle the lure body, and with no point facing downward it’s virtually snag-proof enabling you to fish really tight structure with less hang ups.
- As a bonus, double hooks are also much nicer to fish than using trebles, causing less damage when fishing catch and release.
