While it may seem counter intuitive to throw a lure with two exposed treble hooks around weed, you actually want to “hang” your lure in the vegetation, retrieving it by just barely ticking the tops of the grass. When you do feel your bait get hung up sharply pop your rod upwards once or twice. This often times triggers the target species into biting.

You can also fish lipless cranks in cooler, deeper waters and use a vertical jigging yo-yo technique. Lift your rod tip from a 9 o'clock to 11 o’clock position, and let your bait fall on a semi-slack line. Most reef species will readily hit a vibration lure.
